I just responded to an appeal by Jimmy Wales and made a small donation to Wikipedia. As I was finishing the transaction they asked me whether I could share my Wikipedia story. Here is what I wrote:
Back on September 1st of 2004, I wrote my first lines in Wikipedia without even creating an account - as an anonymous contributor. I was the sixth contributor to the article about my hometown, Santa Ana de Coro, in Venezuela, a world heritage site. These are the lines I published back then:

At the time I dreamed with using the power of the collective actions and resources in people to help local communities thrive in my home country Venezuela. I came to the Bay Area to start realizing those ideas without much knowledge that these type of ideas were making their way in the Bay Area with blogging, wikis, etc. Yelp, Facebook and others were just starting that year as well. At the end of the summer, a friend of mine introduced me to Wikipedia. I was blown away by it and the story behind it. Wikipedia is a great testament to what is possible when we bring together our dreams and actions, and we persevere until we break through.
Today, the page I contributed to has been revised and enriched by many and serves to many more who want to learn about our city Santa Ana de Coro, in the state of Falcon in Venezuela. Read on and even come to visit!

Kudos to the Wikipedia team! Keep up the good work! #KeepItFree
